Island’s First Major Wind Project Helps Expand and Diversify Energy Resources

Atlanta, GA – (October 14th, 2010)North Star Development, Ltd, announced this week that the Company signed a formal agreement with the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to provide the country with up to 20 MW of wind power through its subsidiary North Star St. Kitts, Ltd.  The wind farm will provide clean, cost-effective power for the island nation, helping reduce their reliance on diesel fuel.  Currently St. Kitts produces almost 100% of its electric power through the use of oil-fired generation facilities.

As part of the agreement, North Star Development will provide an island-wide electrical grid upgrade designed to support the added capacity the wind farm will soon be producing. The first phase of the wind farm, located at Belle Vue on St. Kitts, is scheduled to commence operation in mid-2011.  “North Star is excited to bring a major wind power project to St. Kitts,” said North Star Development President Mark Tippett.  “This is the first step to energy independence for the country and we are honored to be playing a pivotal role in that process.”
